Hiking Update  May 18, 2023
Hello from mile 151!  One of the unique aspects of thru hiking is that many hikers are given descriptive nicknames
which ar
e then used by fellow trekkers!  I was given the name "Full Bird" in reference to my military past.  However, trafficking victims lose not only their names, but their identity as well.  Please spread the word and join me on this trek as a donation partner to help Haven for Hope provide safe, restorative housing for rescued victims of human trafficking. It matters! Thanks to those who have already done so!  At  mile 151 you've already raised $2110!
Margery

We are confident you will be inspired as Margery, her sister and niece begin their 2,650 mile hike!  Read their story and TAKE THE CHALLENGE!

At a recent breakfast for local veterinarians, Dr. Beth Ritchie was asked to discuss

'BV HOPE' which she started with a dedicated group of volunteers in 2014.  Enthralled at her description of their amazing work to decrease and prevent human trafficking in local central Colorado communities, perusing their website also revealed their 'Haven for Hope' initiative to provide safe and restorative housing for adult trafficking survivors.  This is something I wanted to support.  The question was....how?

On April 18, my sister Diane, niece Dulce, and I begin my sister's dream adventure:  Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).  This national scenic trail is 2,650 miles from southern California to northern Washington along the Cascade and Sierra mountain ranges.  Although over the age of 60 and with several less than ideal joints, we will hike as far as we can between April and September of 2023.

As a retired US Army officer and veterinarian, I still want to serve.  While praying and pondering about Haven for Hope and the epic (for me) trek, the answer became clear - to use the trek to help raise awareness and money for Haven for Hope.  My goal is to find 100 donation partners to pledge one cent per mile we hike.  Although the total sum of $26.50 per donation, might not seem much, with 100 partners the total of $2,650 could help with complete care and housing for a month for a survivor in the home.  Although uncertain we will be able to complete the entire distance due to record snowfall, more dangerous conditions and other factors, any donation made will be put to excellent use by the Haven for Hope team.

We begin our trek on April 18, 2023 from Campo, California.  Updates on the hike will be provided through this website or follow our adventures on our YouTube channel!

I hope you will join me in this trek to support Haven for Hope!

Many thanks, Margery
